Dental Hygiene Helps for a Happy Holiday

Posted .

The holiday season is rolling on, so it’s more important than ever to keep your mouth clean. Nobody wants to add taking care of a cavity to their holiday to-do list–and you want to look clean and sparkling for your holiday photos! Here are some great tips to help make sure your smile stays winter white this season.

Make sure you are brushing your teeth! This only takes 2 minutes, two times a day. That’s less time than many holiday songs on the radio. If you struggle to take that much time on your teeth, try setting a timer to make sure your pearly whites stay, well, pearly-white. Some electric toothbrushes come with timers built-in, to ensure a quality clean.

Floss your teeth, once every day, either before or after you brush. Flossing, when properly completed, scrapes away the food particles and plaque your toothbrush cannot reach. Flossing should take 2-3 minutes each day. Use only ADA-approved products specifically intended for cleaning between teeth.

Watch your foods. Sugary and acidic foods both damage your teeth and can cause tooth decay and cavities. If you do choose to consume these foods, chew a piece of sugarless gum afterward to stimulate extra saliva flow.
