Got Braces? Here’s How to Make Flossing Easier

Posted .

If your child has braces, they likely struggle to floss around their appliance and between their teeth. Many people have trouble flossing during their orthodontic journey because the braces tend to get in the way or slow down the flossing process. Well, our dentists, Dr. Rita Daghlian and Dr. Paul Sokolowski, would like to help your child’s make flossing a bit easier so they can have a more convenient flossing routine. Help them try the following things:

-Use waxed floss: Waxed floss is a strong, easy-to-use tool that is coated in wax. The wax makes it easier to place the floss in tightly knit places, which can help properly and effectively clean the teeth and gums. The waxed floss also has the strength needed to avoid breaking easily.

-Use floss threaders: Floss threaders help thread the floss under the wires easily. This can take time off a flossing routine and help avoid the frustrations of threading the floss themselves. Encourage your child to use this loop-shaped tool whenever possible!

-Use a water flosser: A water flosser is a handy tool that sprays water from the tip of a wand. When you place the tip between two teeth and turn it on, the water sprays with such force that it cleans the area. This can make cleaning one’s smile easier when you have braces.
